June 24th-26th, Pastor Wiley Kennedy and Lia Kennedy attended the 2019 Love and Logic Educator and Parent Retreat in Colorado.
Founded in 1977 by former principal Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D., Love and Logic is a philosophy of raising and teaching children which allows adults to be happier, empowered, and more skilled in the interactions with children. Love allows children to grow through their mistakes. Logic allows children to live with the consequences of their choices. Love and Logic is a way of working with children that puts parents and teachers back in control, teaches children to be responsible, and prepares young people to live in the real world, with its many choices and consequences.
“While the conference is not specifically Christian, the foundation of the information and much of the practical advice we learned are based on Biblical principles,” shared Pastor Kennedy.
Some of the titles of the sessions they attended included:
- Creating a Love and Logic classroom.
- When Technology and the Online Community (Social Media) Threaten to replace the Family.
- Love and Logic for the School Leaders: Creating a Love and Logic School Culture.
- Will Students Really behave without Getting Stickers, Points, or Pizza Parties?
“Attending the Love and Logic Conference has been such a blessing to me,” added Mrs. Kennedy. “The training at this conference has opened my eyes on how to better love students, while giving them choices that will benefit them in their educational experience.”
Pastor Kennedy appreciated the teaching on the appropriate use of Smart Phones and the importance for both educators and parents to enforce boundaries for the safety of the student and child. “In the technology session, I was given very practical tools to both model and monitor these powerful devices,” shared Pastor Kennedy. “I can’t wait to share this with our school community.”
Both Pastor Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy will be finishing up the accredited certification offered by Love and Logic and Brandman University over the next few months.
