Mission and History

Our Mission

The mission of Santa Clarita Christian School is to partner with Christian parents of like faith to teach students’ minds and train their hearts for God through a distinctively biblical education.

This mission shapes the daily experience of our students. It is lived out through rigorous academics, Christ-centered instruction, meaningful relationships, and intentional discipleship in every classroom, activity, and program. Our desire is that students grow not only in knowledge and skill, but also in faith, character, and purpose as they prepare to serve Christ in the world.

The History of Santa Clarita Christian School

Our History

Founded on Faith (1982)

Santa Clarita Christian School was founded in 1982 as a ministry of Santa Clarita Baptist Church. That same year, the First Baptist Church of Saugus and The Temple Baptist Church of Canyon Country merged to form Santa Clarita Baptist Church, and SCCS opened its doors as a traditional K–12 Christian school.

In its first year, SCCS served 110 students with 12 faculty members, united by a shared commitment to Christ-centered education.

A Legacy of Prayer and Growth

From the very beginning, SCCS was built on prayer. In the early years, when enrollment growth was uncertain, faithful leaders committed the future of the school to the Lord.

One such leader was Harland Working, a deacon of Santa Clarita Baptist Church and architect of the original library and office building. Harland consistently encouraged the leadership to make enrollment and provision a matter of prayer. Year after year, God answered, growing the ministry and providing for its needs.

Though Harland and his wife Bernice have been with the Lord for many years, the legacy of their faithfulness continues to shape SCCS today.

Impact and Outcomes

Since its founding, SCCS has graduated over 1,000 students and has become a respected and impactful Christian school in the Santa Clarita Valley. Graduates have gone on to attend institutions such as The Master’s University, Biola University, Pepperdine University, UCLA, USC, and the U.S. military academies, among others.

Many alumni have returned to serve the school as faculty, staff, and leaders—an enduring testimony to the strength of the community and the mission that unites it.

SCCS Today—and Looking Forward

Today, Santa Clarita Christian School serves more than 500 students annually, supported by a dedicated faculty and staff committed to our enduring mission. As the Lord continues to grow this ministry, we are prayerfully preparing for the expansion of SCCS through the development of our Lost Canyon campus, with the opportunity to serve more than 300 additional students. This growth reflects both the increasing demand for Christ-centered education and our commitment to steward that growth with care, purpose, and faithfulness. While our footprint may expand, our mission remains unchanged: to partner with Christian families to teach minds and train hearts for God, equipping the next generation to live with wisdom, conviction, and hope in Christ.
