Advanced Placement Classes

“Kids learn to self-advocate, communicate and be proactive with their education with this class format,” shared Mrs. Schertz, AP Environmental Science Online Teacher.

Advanced Placement are high level classes taught in high school that help prepare students for taking the AP exam in May of each year. These classes are highly rigorous and require students to do additional work compared to the traditional class. Students must do a substantial amount of independent reading and study. Success on passing the AP exam at the end of the year depends on both the classroom instruction and the individual preparation of the student. All AP classes earn the student an additional GPA point on their high school report card but college credit is only awarded based upon the passing level on the AP exam. Every college can set its own standards for accepting AP course credits but the usual minimum acceptance level is a 3 on a five point scale. Students should check with their prospective colleges to verify their particular standards for accepting AP course credits. A student’s course grade is not affected by their AP exam score.

SCCS offers the following AP classes for students in 9th through 12th grade:

  • AP Biology
  • AP Environmental Science

Honors Course Offerings:

  • Intro to Literature
  • World Literature
  • World History
  • Chemistry
