Kristen is currently 33 years old and graduated from SCCS in 2003. She then attended San Diego Christian College and received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Science in 2007 and her Masters in Physician Assistant studies in 2011.
“I am the product of Christian education, from Kindergarten to Master’s degree,” shared Kristen. “I am a firm believer that a quality Christian education is priceless, especially in this day and age where our public school is inundated with anti-christian worldviews. Having the foundation of a Christian worldview that I received from SCCS has formed the way I see people and practice medicine. I am currently in my 6th year practicing medicine in San Diego. I spent two years doing spinal rehabilitation, one year in orthopedic surgery, and am currently practicing medicine at an urgent care. Earlier this year I was blessed by being awarded clinician of the year for the San Diego region.”
Kristen met her husband Chad while in her clinical internships, traveling across the country. “My husband and I were blessed to go to Guatemala on a medical mission’s trip in 2017 and will be returning May 2018 through our church, Foothill Christian Church in El Cajon,” said Kristen. “In Guatemala, we provide medical education, treatment, medication, and lots of prayer. We are also involved with the bus ministry in our local church where Sunday mornings we pick up kids who don’t have a ride to and from church. Most of these children come from broken families.”
This past year Kristen and her husband Chad were blessed to sponsor one of their bus kids (age 10) at Foothills Christian School as her education was greatly jeopardized. “Over this past year she has improved leaps and bounds in her academics, socially, and spiritually,” shared Kristen. “Next year we will be sponsoring her in her in 5th grade, and her younger sister in 4th grade. My husband and I are hoping to continue to sponsor these kids in honor of my sister Lauren Mercier, who’s prayer before starting her 8th grade year at SCCS was for God to use her to change her school.”
Kristen’s favorite teacher at SCCS was her fifth grade teacher, Belinda Casas and favorite memory is of playing high school basketball.
Kristen’s husband Chad works as a realtor in La Jolla, California and they reside in San Diego.
