It has been a challenging and rewarding season for SCCS athletics as the high school girls volleyball season comes to a close and high school boys football looks to end their season strong.

Varsity Volleyball Coach Darcy Brown was encouraged to see the girls love for each other. “Our greatest strengths have been the way our team has been able to work together so well and really play smart volleyball,” shared Coach Brown. “They get along, love playing together, and have really put aside ‘self’ for the sake of the team.” A commitment to using their time as a way to reach out to others in the school community characterized the season. “I have seen God work in the lives of a lot of these kids as they have really had a passion for discipleship and spurring on one another in their walk with Christ and how they live out each day,” shared Coach Brown. “I see them praying with each other outside of practice, meeting together to encourage one another and making it a point to pursue relationships with each other from different grade levels.”

Athletic Director and Football Coach Mark Bates shared that his team is using focus and faith to advance while on the field. “We have a large group of seniors who have established a culture that works hard and expects success,” shared Coach Bates. “God has taught us to be grateful in our successes and humble in our failures.” Coach Bates has tackled the football season with integrity and is thankful for how God is using the sport in his players’ lives. “I am excited about the opportunity to use the context of football to help develop young men and guide them into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.”
