Amidst all the campus and community happenings in recent weeks, SCCS was also busy hosting an accreditation team from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). It has been three years since our last visit (which earned the highest approval), and it was time for our mid-cycle review.

These visits come with both a bit of anxiousness as well as a whole lot of gratefulness. It is good to have your program reviewed by those outside your organization, but there is also a great deal of work and prayer that go into the preparations.  In the end, it was an honest, encouraging, and helpful visit that proved very beneficial for future planning. Mostly, however, it was an opportunity to show others what God is doing at SCCS and give Him the glory—and that is exactly what the visiting team witnessed and testified to. To paraphrase the visiting team’s comments, “SCCS has managed to cultivate and maintain a healthy culture of both Christian community and academic rigor; this is what every Christian school strives to do.”

Though SCCS has experienced significant leadership transition in recent years, the visiting team recognized that the commitment to our core mission of discipleship as well as the integrity of our academic program remains solid. Thus, SCCS was again granted the highest approval. The report noted that “These changes resulted in an organizational leadership structure that was not previously present, more support and accountability for faculty and staff, more support for students and parents, more oversight, and a network of collaborative support.”

Moving ahead, we now look to excel still more in our commitment to a distinctly Christian education. Our prayer continues to be that the Lord would be pleased with how we are teaching minds and training hearts and that He would be honored by our desire to do all things for HimTo God be the glory!
