As the school year winds down, the senior class is looking ahead to each of their futures. This successful class received admission into colleges across the country. Many students received great academic/athletic scholarship packages, and several students, such as Caspian Brenner, Haley Gunther, Justin Collins and Jackson Horning, were offered full-ride scholarships.
“This year, our graduates have excelled academically and were prepared to compete for spots in some of the most selective schools across the country, collectively applying to more than one hundred colleges and universities,” shared Mervatte Gunther, School Counselor. “Some of these universities included top UCs and Cal state schools such as UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and UC San Diego as well as Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Long Beach, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Northridge. Some of the more notable out of state universities and and one college were Boston University, Case Western Reserve University, Gettysburg College, Kentucky Christian University, University of Alabama, Liberty University, Grand Canyon University and Baylor University.”
SCCS celebrated the senior class by honoring them during the Senior Appreciation Week. Activities included goodie bags for each senior, breakfast during their Tuesday Bible class, ice cream floats on Thursday and a BBQ on Friday.
“On Wednesday, we celebrated College Decision Day and each senior wore gear from the college they will be attending in the fall,” shared Mrs. Clapper. “Some students even decorated their cars to get into the spirit of their college. During chapel many parents of the seniors attended to celebrate this special day.”
Senior Chapel on Wednesday had an overarching theme of honor. This was a memorable time for the faculty of SCCS to honor these young men and women with words of encouragement as well as for the students to honor their parents, teachers and friends. After each student had the opportunity to share, the secondary teachers and parents gathered around the class of 2019 and prayed for them as they are fast approaching their transition from student to alumni.
In these three weeks left until graduation, the senior class remains actively involved in the SCCS community.
“Our seniors are currently busy completing their Statement of Intent to Register and signing up for housing and orientations,” continued Mrs. Gunther. “Also, many students are applying to Honors programs and additional scholarships, all while maintaining an above average GPA and completing all required work for their high school courses.”
The senior trip to Maui on June 2nd through 7th will be a wonderful last experience for the senior class to further cement special friendships and bonds they have created at SCCS.
